Web Designer Needed

EWB-Central Houston is currently looking for a web designer to redesign and maintain our current webpage.  This person should possess either a professional or expert hobbyist skill level in html web design.  The work required involves 10-20 hours for initial redesign, and approximately 5 hours each month for site maintenance.  Please contact Brian Davis if you are interested in designing and maintaining www.ewbhouston.org

BOLIVIA

The Bolivia project is in the final stage of an assessment trip preparation.  Primary goals for the upcoming trip, scheduled July 26 - August 6, are to provide a baseline health assessment of the community and to gather the necessary information for a technical assessment of the proposed project solution.  Last month's health workshop, developed by traveling team member Yvette Mirabal, was an important and necessary part of the team’s preparation.  The team is working on final logistical preparation and is very happy that the Cochabamba Rotary club will be hosting their stay.  Next month's update should provide a lot of new material! Please contact project team leader Marcos Flores ( Marcos Flores@chevron.com) with any questions.

INDIA

The India project travel team is currently on location at SRPP to begin construction of the Water Stations.  The team presently consists of AnnMarie Spexet and Bryan Shnider, an electrical engineering student from the newly formed Southern Methodist University EWB chapter in Dallas who's being sponsored by the project as a student intern.  Later in the project, Christian Uehara will join the team to help complete the implementation of the project.  A total of three (3) Water Stations are planned to be built, with AC electrical power used for the water pumps and DC solar power for the lighting of the stations.  Team members back in Texas continue to assist with daily issues that arise on-site during the implementation phase of the project.  For more information on the India projects, please contact the project managers AnnMarie Spexet, PE (aspexet@gmail.com) or Guo-Pin Fuan, PE (gpfuan1@sbcglobal.net).

EL SALVADOR

The El Salvador Sanitation project team is working for the communities of Tiembla Tierra and Santa Carlota, which are just downhill of Colonia Esmeralda, the site of our water and retaining wall projects.  The challenge is to create a sanitation solution for approximately 150 urban homes spread out over half a kilometer.  Current sanitation systems include full pit latrines, flushing toilets that empty into a ravine, and sheets of paper that they defecate on before throwing into a ravine.

Our EWB team is exploring a combination of projects including a PVC pipeline, biogas generators, and composting latrines.  If you're interested in investing in these rewarding projects, contact Sara Beck (sbeck@ewbhouston.org) and Erin Lyons (erinklyons@gmail.com).  Our documentation is available here: http://www.ewbhouston.org/sanitation.htm

Next meeting will be Monday, July 16th at 7pm in person and by telecon: 1700 West Loop South, Suite 1450.  Dial in: 1-800-910-2399 passcode: 816163.
