The
El Salvador Sanitation project team is working for the communities of Tiembla
Tierra and Santa Carlota, which are just downhill of Colonia Esmeralda,
the site of our water and retaining wall projects. The challenge is to
create a sanitation solution for approximately 150 urban homes
spread out over half a kilometer. Current sanitation systems
include full pit latrines, flushing toilets that empty into a
ravine, and sheets of paper that they defecate on before
throwing into a ravine. Our
EWB team is exploring a combination of projects including a PVC
pipeline, biogas generators, and composting latrines. If you're
interested in investing in these rewarding projects, contact Sara Beck (sbeck@ewbhouston.org)
and Erin Lyons (erinklyons@gmail.com). Our
documentation is available here: http://www.ewbhouston.org/sanitation.htm Next
meeting will be Monday, July 16th at |
